CHAPTER 7

Inner Peace: Antidote for Stress, Worry, and Fear

 Worry and Fear – continues…..

The pleasure of modern man is in getting more and more, and what happens to anyone else doesn’t matter. But isn’t it better to live simply—without so many luxuries and with fewer worries? There is no pleasure in driving yourself until you cannot enjoy what you have….The time will come when mankind will begin to get away from the consciousness of needing so many material things. More security and peace will be found in the simple life.

If you continually write out checks without depositing anything in your bank account, you will run out of money. So it is with your life. Without regular deposit of peace in your life account, you will run out of strength, calmness, and happiness. You will finally become bankrupt—emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. But daily communion with God will continually replenish your inner bankroll.

No matter how busy we are, we should not forget now and then to free our minds completely from worries and all duties….Try to remain for one minute at a time without thinking negatively, fixing the mind on the peace within especially if worried. Then try to remain for several minutes with a quiet mind. Following that, think of some happy incident; dwell on it and visualize it; mentally go through some pleasant experience over and over again until you have forgotten your worries entirely.

******

When beset by overwhelming mental trials or worries one should try to fall asleep. If he can do that, he will find upon awakening that the mental tension has been relieved, and that the worry has loosened its grip. We need to remind ourselves at such times that even if we died, the earth would continue to follow its orbit, and business would be carried on as usual, so why worry?
